• America’s Biggest Owner Of Farmland Is Now Bill Gates [Article]

  • Recap: Bill Gates has been buying up farmland in the US, and is now the top private farmland owner in America. In addition, he has several investments focused on sustainable agriculture.

  • Comment: Gates' investments align clearly with our broader views on inflation, and themes around onshoring (re-localizing supply chains). Farmland as an investment provides an inflation hedge, is closely correlated to money supply growth (see below), has tax advantages (raise taxes on farmland = rise in food costs; government avoids this), and has 'sustainable' cash flow opportunity (food = a staple for life).

    

Blockchain

• An Economic Analysis of Ethereum [Article]

  • Recap: Lyn provides an in-depth analysis of Ethereum (history, progression, etc.) and the broader ETH ecosystem, with an update based on feedback she received from the ETH community (seemingly including Vitalik).

  • Comment: We view this as a useful framework for beginning to understand Ethereum and the ecosystem, but would highlight Lyn's focus as a macro / process-oriented thinker and investor. ETH represents more of a "VC type" investment that still has multiple paths (optionality) going forward - so it doesn't fit as "neatly" into her framework as something like Bitcoin, which is more mature/established. The risk/rewards for the two assets are also different in that regard - ETH is a higher risk / higher reward opportunity. Check out the Telegram for our recent group discussion on the topic.
